This is the summer to get inspired with a passion for the great outdoors. Visit Big Bear to experience the natural beauty of our pristine alpine lake surrounded by cool pine forests and clear blue skies. Plenty of outdoor fun like boating, swimming, hiking, mountain biking and so much more to keep your family active all summer long.

Hop on a pontoon boat, hire a fishing charter, cruise the lake on jet skis or simply relax and enjoy the views with a narrated boat tour. For something a little different, make a splash on the new Tarzan Boat at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor & Marina for hours of family fun.

Cool off with a kayak, canoe or paddleboard rental. Each of our six marinas will have a variety of options for watersports. Get out on the lake and let Designated Wakesports teach you to waterski or wakeboard. Pleasure Point Marina has a new 8-person Stand-Up Paddleboard so the whole family can join the fun.

Explore endless hiking and mountain biking trails that lead you through shady forest paths or choose a trail right along the lakeshore for some sunshine and spectacular views. South Shore trails are generally cooler with shade from several varieties of pines and oaks. North Shore trails get more sun and during the summer are great for early morning or early evening hikes or rides.

Nature walks are a great way to introduce your kids to the beauty of the mountains while learning about the plants, trees and animals that live in our forests. The best options for casual family walks are the Alpine Pedal Path, Woodland Interpretive Trail, Discovery Center Nature Path or our newest addition, Happy Hills Trail. Alpine Pedal Path and Happy Hills Trail are both bike and stroller accessible and all four of these trails offer shady picnic areas and restrooms.

Mountain bikes, road bikes and electric bikes are available to rent at several locations. will supply you with maps and suggested scenic routes or stop by the Big Bear Visitors Center and our guest services staff will help you with maps and trail information.

Snow Summit Bike Park is big fun for the entire family. They offer everything from beginner lessons for mountain biking novices to a ride to the top for more advanced riders who want to tackle more challenging trails. And there’s delicious BBQ at the top to refuel when you’re ready for a break.

Not a mountain biker? Take a ride on the Scenic Sky Chair. Glide up to 8200’ while you get a bird’s eye view of the forests below. Hike the Mountain Loop Trail at the top before having a bite to eat at the Skyline Taphouse and then head back down for some of the most panoramic views of Big Bear Valley.

Adrenaline junkie? Check out the Action Zipline with 9 different platforms where you’ll fly over treetops, climb across a rope bridge and get incredible views of the forest. Or, experience the Action Tree Rope Climbing tour. Deep in the forest your guide will teach you how to expertly climb huge pine trees and rappel back down safely landing on the forest floor.

Drive a jeep with Big Bear Jeep Experience! Their expert guides will drive ahead of you and keep in contact by radio while you learn to off-road. Keep it as mild or as wild as you like, you choose. Casually tour Holcomb Valley while learning about our gold mining history, or go wild with some boulder crawling through tight outcroppings along the dirt trails.
