Big Bear Oktoberfest
For half a century, Big Bear Oktoberfest has kept its number one goal top of mind, share the love! Started by German immigrants Hans and Erica Bandows, what once was a 'thank you' party for their new found friends and community has developed into a seasonal staple event that still aims to make guests feel loved and at home here in the Valley.
The humble beginnings that originated in 1970 was created from Hans and Erika's hearts, and each and every year thereafter this annual celebration has been nurtured, molded and shaped by one thing, and that of course is a labor love. Big Bear Oktoberfest

Fall Family Fun
Autumn in Big Bear is full of fun for the whole family. From high-flying thrills at Action Tours' Pumpkin Smash, to Flashlight Safaris at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, from excavating precious gems at Gold Rush Mining Adventures, to scavenger hunts through The Village with Urban Adventure Quest and Mountain Room Escapes, and from petting zoos at Baldwin Lake Stables, to hiking through the fall painted forest, and biking along the shoreline Pedal Path, you're sure to find something everyone will enjoy.

Fall Color Viewing & Tours
See the colors of the season while touring Big Bear's back country on a 4X4 Jeep tour, or fly over it all with Helicopter Big Bear! Action Tours features a fall color Segway tour long with their zipline experience, you'll zoom along behind your guide as you explore The Village and surrounding neighborhoods. You can also admire the Valley's fall foliage from the lake aboard one of many lake tour experiences.
Doing some shopping? A stroll through The Village on a fall afternoon will leave you breath taken at the scarlet red maples and bright yellow cottonwoods. Quaint shops are filled with autumn must haves, and local eateries break out their seasonal fare. In the evening, the lamplit Village is a welcoming sight with glowing firepits to warm your hands.
Fall Fishing Adventures
Throw on your favorite plaid flannel, grab your Stanley thermos, find your lucky fishing pole and head up to Big Bear Lake. The fish are definitely biting this season. Set up your camp chair on the shoreline and settle in for a relaxing day of fishing in Big Bear Lake. Along the North Shore there are popular places to drop a line, especially close to the dam. The marinas close in late October, so try one of the local sporting goods stores for bait and tackle in November.
Enjoy the Autumn National Forest
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of adventures to be had. Three of the best trails for hiking in Big Bear Lake and mountain biking to view fall color are on the South Shore; Town Trail, Pine Knot Trail and Castle Rock Trail.
You can drive, hike or ride up Mill Creek Rd./Skyline Trail (2N10) to Bluff Lake Reserve for a quiet walk through some of the prettiest autumn scenery in Big Bear. Hike the Siberia Creek Trail from the Champion Lodgepole Pine and see the forest floor covered with brilliant yellow and rust-colored ferns.
Please note the current closure of the San Bernardino National Forest at this time. This is a temporary closure however trails, forest roads, campgrounds, and picnic areas are off limits until further notice.
Fall is a perfect time to surprise your special someone with an autumn getaway to Big Bear Lake. Book a rustic cabin nestled in the forest or a beautiful hotel suite with all the modern conveniences. Pamper yourselves with a romantic dinner for two followed by an in-room couples’ massage. Bring your favorite bottle of wine to share in front of a roaring fireplace. For romantic outdoor adventure, pack a picnic, grab a trail map and head out to Pine Knot Trail for a day in the woods. Rent a bike or kayak for a day of leisurely pedaling or paddling along the shore.
