Big Bear Lake Winter Activities To Choose From

Posted: 02/04/11 | By Daniel

To pass the time, there are many Big Bear Lake winter activities to choose from. Skiing, boarding, biking or hiking and all in the same day!

Most of us have been charging the snowshoes lately in preparation for "Snowshoe the Bear." To change it up a bit, a couple of us planned a hike on the east side of town where the snow has already begun to melt. While getting ready to go, I sat down for a sip of coffee and turned on the news just in time to see footage of the crazy weather pummeling the East Coast. As I watched people in Minnesota and New York fighting frostbite and frigid temperatures, I felt the warm California sun on the back of my neck shining through my kitchen window.

It was great to know that in Big Bear we have choices on how to spend our days. We can choose to go skiing, boarding, biking or hiking and we could do all of them on the same day! So we decided to hike up the Gold Mountain trail, which is no easy task. It's steep, rocky and exposed but the beautiful views and spectacular rock formations make it worth the effort. We all agreed that anything would be better than spending the entire day shoveling snow! We have to shovel snow once in a while but nothing like what they need to do back East. So remember, a lot of people are snowed in right now but you have choices in Big Bear and we hope you choose to get outside and play.
