Scarecrows, Safaris and Spartans...Oh My!

Halloween is around the corner and Big Bear sets the best scene to spend this spooky holiday. There are plenty of fun activities and events for all ages to enjoy this frightfully-fun night, from haunted houses, zoo events and safe family friendly trick-or-treating. Here are a few of our favorites:

Big Bear Village Scarecrow Festival

The Village Scarecrow Festival . Stroll through Big Bear Village, our central shopping and dining hub, and see the hand-made scarecrow displays created by our local merchants. Grab a ballot at any of the participating merchants and vote for your favorite. Now through November 6.

Big Bear Oktoberfest

For 47 years the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest has attracted thousands of visitors to enjoy German food, imported brews, Bavarian bands and traditional dances. Oktoberfest is every Saturday and Sunday through October 28. On the final day of Oktoberfest, there will be a Halloween costume contest, games and prizes.

Autumn events at Big Bear Alpine Zoo includes Flashlight Safari At The Zoo . Every Friday and Saturday night during October this unique guided tour explores the more active side of the animals during twilight and dusk. Saturday, October 21 is Wolf Awareness Day .Come let the experts dispel the wolf myths and learn about the important role that wolves play within the ecosystem. On Saturday, October 28, bring the kids to Boo at the Zoo . Regular admission prices apply for each of these events.

Bear Valley Farms Hayride

Celebrate the season with traditional fall festivities at Bear Valley Farms. They have an organic pumpkin patch, old-fashioned hayrides, a Bounce House and a petting zoo. Make it a fun fall day in the mountains. When the sun goes down at Haunted Bear Valley Farms, zombies, ghouls and ghosts seem to crawl right out of the night. Wind your way through the Corn Maze and try the Haunted Hayride. Kids under 10 are not allowed on the Haunted Hayride. Friday and Saturday nights from September 29 - October 31.

Halloween Escape Room in The Village. This year Mountain Room Escapes has a Halloween room escape at their new location in The Village. 40729 Village Dr., Ste. 6. Room escape games are live, interactive games where you and your group must work together to solve puzzles, find clues, and figure out how to escape a themed room before time runs out. Book now for an appointment in our Halloween game for an intense and scary experience starting October 20th. Check the website for pricing and schedule.

Trick or Treat! Everyone and their dog, yes, there is a dog costume contest, is invited to the Annual Halloween in The Village. Costumed kids go from shop to shop and booth to booth filling their bags with candies. Over 50 merchants welcome your little ghosts and goblins. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. The pet costume contest is at the Copper Q on Pine Knot Ave. in The Village. Call (909) 878-4777 for pet costume judging time.

Aroo!! The Spartan Race is coming to Big Bear Lake! Saturday, October 28 is the Reebok Spartan Beast, their most difficult race. The 12-14 Mile Beast packs more than 30 Signature Spartan Obstacles. Sunday, October 29 is the Reebok Spartan Sprint Race. Everyone is welcome, from Spartan first timers to seasoned racers. The 3-5 Mile Sprint may be their shortest distance but it packs more than 20 Signature Spartan Obstacles. If you think you can’t do it, you’re wrong. Get to the starting line and show yourself what you are capable of.

On November 3-4 get ready to laugh yourself silly at the Big Bear Comedy Festival! Twenty-one comedians, eight shows, two days, and one awesome time! Check out their website to see the amazing line-up of comedians.
