Some Big Bear Lake History

  • 1884: Rock Dam was constructed by Frank Elwood Brown
  • 1910: John Eastwood designed a new multi-arch wall to replace the Rock Dam
  • 1912: Arch wall dam construction was finished, doubling the size of the lake.
  • 1916: The Bear Valley Land & Water Co made the surface of the lake free for boating and fishing.

Previous Ranks

Within the past two years we've ranked number 4 for best lake in 2023 and ranked number 6 in 2024.

This year we intend to climb the ranks and let everyone know about our high-altitude wonder!
