The Southern California Mountains Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that believes connecting communities to our public lands is the key to their survival. We achieve our mission through seven programs: (1) Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire, (2) Big Bear Discovery Center, (3) Off-Highway Vehicles, (4) Fire Lookouts, (5) National Children’s Forest/Great Seeds Restoration, (6) Music in the Mountains and (7) Big Bear Trails.
Introduction to the Children’s Forest Visitor Center & Nursery:
The Children’s Forest was created in the wake of the 1970 Bear Fire; the area was replanted with trees bearing the names of children. In 1993, the first trail was established by a workgroup of children from around the country. This ¾ -mile Interpretive Trail at the top of Keller Peak Road can still be hiked today. The Children’s Forest provides opportunities for youth to take a leadership role in forest management by giving them a legitimate voice in caring for our local mountains. Through formal education and volunteer programs, we aim to evoke a fascination with nature that engenders a commitment to lifelong learning and environmental stewardship.
Job Description:
