This past weekend, Big Bear received 3-4" of fresh snow! There are so many reasons why December in Big Bear is so much fun. The ski resorts are open with early season rates, both tubing hills are open, the Village is lit up with holiday lights and Big Bear is covered with a blanket of fresh snow! Now that's exciting!
If you plan on visiting this time of year, you must stop by to see the holiday lights in the Big Bear Village. Bring the kids by on Saturdays and Sundays to visit Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and to see the Village Christmas tree. The Village has gone through new improvements this year, making it even more enjoyable with 3 fire pits, heated sidewalks and plenty of sitting areas to enjoy a hot cup of chocolate milk while people watching.
If skiing and snowboarding is on your agenda, then visit one of Big Bear's 2 world-class ski resorts Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. One lift ticket is all you need because it is interchangeable at both resorts along with a shuttle that will take you back and forth. Here are some quick tips:
- Check-in the kids (ages 3-6) for lessons at Bear Mountain's Burton Learn-to-Ride Riglet Park and then take off to enjoy some alone time on the mountain. Consider it a temporary babysitter! Freestyle lesson package includes equipment, shelter and lunch.
- Friday and Saturday Night Sessions at Snow Summit start December 13! Skiing and snowboarding at night is a unique experience you must try! Adults, Young Adults and Seniors can upgrade your day lift ticket to night session for only $15, Children can upgrade for only $10. Go to any ticket window or the Guest Services office for your upgrade.
- Plan on staying the weekend and need to head home on Sunday early to get ready for the week? The ski resorts offer a credit voucher for up to $15 ($19 during holiday periods and peak weekends) if you turn in your all-day ticket by 1 p.m. at any ticket window. (Amount of voucher varies based on price of ticket.)
Another popular family fun winter activity is tubing at one of our tubing hills Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain or Big Bear Snow Play. Daily night sessions during the holiday season at the Alpine Slide start this Friday, December 13-December 23 and December 26-January 4, 2014. Visit their website for admission prices. Both tubing hills offer covered magic carpet rides that make it easy for parents to carry the kid's tubes to the top and make the experience more enjoyable!
This is just the beginning of a great winter season in Big Bear and I am very excited! The temps early this week are expected to be cooler with blue sunny skies, so dress warm!
