Holiday Driving Tips

HEADING TO OR LEAVING BIG BEAR & WANT TO SAVE TIME DURING A HOLIDAY PERIOD?

Take routes (the routes are longer but are less traveled):
Hwy. 38 via the I-10 through Redlands
or
Hwy. 18 (east entrance) via I-15 through Victorville / Lucerne Valley

Take the Same Routes Locals Take During Peak Periods

When leaving Big Bear during peak periods or on fresh powder days consider traveling on the routes locals take, which are Hwy. 38 toward Redlands and Hwy. 18 toward Lucerne Valley. Both routes are east of the ski resorts that ultimately take motorists west, north and south as a convenient way back home. Take it from a local, during peak periods "East is Least" and will eventually save you some travel time.

If you take Hwy. 330 home during peak periods and appears backed up, then consider taking Hwy. 18 toward Crestline/Lake Arrowhead. This route has a bit more mountain driving, but could save you time on the way home.
