Come attend the biggest 4th of July fireworks display in Southern California. The fireworks are shot off from a barge on the Lake directly off of Pine Knot Landing. Fireworks begin between 8:45-9:15pm. Viewable from any of our public parks or the best spot, from a boat on the Lake. Make sure to bring a jacket or blanket because it can get cold. The Village of Big Bear Lake will again host the 5th Annual Pine Knot Village Art Walk July 5 and 6, 2008. This juried event showcases original works of art from more than 25 participating artists and attracts thousands of fine art collectors, enthusiasts and visitors.This year’s work will again include a broad range of disciplines, from original oil and acrylic paintings to landscape and still photography, and hand-thrown pottery and sculpture to inventive fine-crafted jewelry made from semi-precious stones. Local artists exhibiting include potter Annie Aldrich, painter Greg Zook, fine art photographers Scott Cordner and Cathleen Calkins, wearable art by artisaons Pat Deem and Joan Gibson, painter Joyce Brookens and glass works by Tom Horton, among others. Participating village galleries include United Wood Craftsmen, Cedar Rose Lane, Gallery of the American Landscape, The Gallery, Wildwood Gallery and the Schoettger Gallery. Live art demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend and artists will be on hand to discuss their work and creative process. Exhibiting artists will display their work along Village Drive and Pine Knot Avenue in the Village of Big Bear Lake. This event is free to the public and ample parking is available on Bartlett Road. | The First Annual Big Bear Lake Paddlefest | |||||||||

The first annual Big Bear Lake PaddleFest has been scheduled to take place Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, 2008 This inaugural event will take place on Big Bear Lake’s northern shore and will culminate with a six-mile paddle race. Cash and prizes valed at $5,000.00 will be awarded. The weekend event will offer pre-race-day activities on Saturday July 12th, including on-water clinics for beginner and advanced paddlers taught by local kayak instructors, kayak demos, an outdoor-industry sports exhibit, and an evening presentation by photographers Cathleen Calkins and Scott Cordner of their kayak expedition to Central Siberia’s Lake Baikal. The race, scheduled for Sunday, July 13th, is open to all levels of paddlers. The course is set to begin and finish at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor Marina in Grout Bay taking racers through an out and back route to the Big Bear Lake dam inside the 5-mile buoy markers. Sunday’s event will also include a raffle of prizes from Big Bear Valley area business owners. | Xeriscape Garden Tour | |||||||||

Start the tour anytime between 9 AM and Noon at Emingers Mountain Nursery. The tour is self-guided and there is no cost. Tour goers are provided with a tour booklet that includes the locations of the homes and gardens, a map and information on gardening in the mountains. Tour sponsors will be on hand at the starting point to answer questions about composting, tree care, and artificial turf. Go Native plant signs are placed in strategic locations at each garden to identify native plants of the mountains. California Multisport - Big Bear Lake
Sunday, July 27 2008, 8:00am - 5:00pm This race will certainly not disapoint anyone who has explored the trails of the beautiful mountain community of Big Bear Lake, California. Look for a course with outstanding trails, fireroads and double-track for both mountain biking and trail running. You certainly won't find any long death marches here, in fact you will most definitely be entertained with an ever changing variety of landscape and trails as you wind your way up and down the mountainside. Yep, that's right! Mountainside. Make sure you've put in some time on the uphills and the downhills so you're ready for the challenge. Disciplines and Distances - Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Lake Paddling. Exact distances to be posted 2 weeks prior to event, but expect 4-6 miles paddling, 5-8 miles running and 15-18 miles biking. Paddlers at this event can choose any type of non-motorized paddle craft.
